Great Southern BBQ! This is where it's at guys. You will not be disappointed at all. Had pulled pork, beans, and slaw. Sauces where more on the sweet side. However this is not a deal breaker. Good food.

UPDATE: Burgers are good! Bar is chill spot to hang out and drink late at night. Interesting atmosphere. Mixed feelings. Nice employees Overpriced, decent at best, nothing special, pork doesn't taste smoked, bbq sauce tastes like KC Master piece, out of mac n cheese....etc. paid $30 for 3 sandwiches, 2 sides and 1 drink. Sorry, but Southern Soul was amazing....

Much respect lost for Alton Brown.....this place has either suffered an epic loss in quality or you seriously have to question his mental well being! Pork, brisket and chicken all consistently overlooked and incredibly dry. The Mac and cheese was simply Velveta and noodles. Packets of fake lemon juice for the tea. Ice machine with no ice....and most off-putting was that the dining area was overrun with flies!

Worst experience ever! My daughter was seriously injured on their unsafe fans without covers and they laughed as she bled and cried. Doesnt matter what the food tastes like, this place is nightmare!

We came here based on Yelp reviews, and based on the mile long line at the "other" BBQ place in the area... I wish we had waited in the line at the other place (and shame on me for explicitly trusting Yelp - half of these reviews are probably people who know staff or don't know any better). Two of us had pulled pork sandwiches with fried okra. The pork was tasteless. Not fatty though, and not cold, but just blah. It's like it wasn't seasoned at all. The okra had no flavor either - just tasted the batter. I make better pulled pork and fried okra and I'm as southern as the Red Sox. One of our party members had the smoked turkey sandwich which resulted in horrific food poisoning - his belly was swollen like he was 9 months pregnant all night, horrifically ill... it was terrible and resulted in cutting our vacation short. Lastly, I get that BBQ places are usually divey, but this was particularly bogus. Tables were not that clean, the bar/back room area looked like a sleazy room in a frat house where you might get roofied, and the staff were all disheveled. I'm sorry, but if you work in food service, pull your gross pony tail up. Wait in line at the other place, or just learn how to use a crock pot and make your own pulled pork. It will probably taste better.

Visiting from out of town, and this patio restaurant was within walking distance from our rental house. We each had the ribs, and they were amazing. I preferred not to use any sauce because the Beachcomber's smoking was that good (also, their BBQ was too sweet for me). The Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, and Sweet Tots were all okay. The ribs were great but I'd like to try their pulled pork the next time we go.

BBQ ribs where good! But it's an order pay and pick up style dining. So if your expecting a waiter service this is not the place. The kitchen did not appear to be the cleanest. This is the reason I did not give a 5 star.

Was out in GA visiting and was on a mission to find good southern BBQ. Luckily this place was just a walk away from the King and Prince resort were I was staying. The ribs were fall off the bone amazing and the brisket was awesome. I'm from Socal and never had okra before and had to say it was really good. The gentlemen working there was very nice and made eating there a great experience. I look forward coming back to GA and stopping by for more great food.

We initially came up for the Shrimp & Grits Festival on Jekyll Island, however, a BBQ Quest filled the first part of our day. I had a couple places bookmarked from Food Network that I've wanted to try for a while. Beachcomber was our first stop. Knowing we were going to be sampling a few menus, we had to be wise with our order. We decided to split the Supreme: 2 meats, 2 sides & Texas Toast. I got the pulled pork, Mr. Uncorked went for the ribs. For his two sides he went with Brunswick stew & the beans. I get the sides at the next stop. The pulled pork was delicious. Moist, but just pure pork. Not swimming in sauce or juice. I piled it high on the toast and made myself an open faced sandwich with a mix of the hot & sweet sauces on the table. For details on the ribs, you'll have to wait until Mr. Uncorked reviews them. He's found his voice again. As for atmosphere, Beachcomber is exactly what I would conjure up when trying to imagine a BBQ shack near the beach. The smoke is real and not just a facade like some other (now closed) places we've tried in GA.

Loved the island theme, outdoor seating with BBQ smoker out front, and laid back servers. unfortunately the only item on my plate of brisket, pork, and mac and cheese and fried okra that was close to being warm was the okra. Tasted like leftovers that had been nuked for a minute. Go to Southern Soul....

Average beach food. Pork was okay. Not all its hyped up to be. Southern Souls is better if you're on the island.

A great dry rib. Their vinegar sauce was support on but the thick sauce tasted like kc masterpiece. The slaw was way too mayonnaise-y and the potato salad was garbage. If you don't order sides this is totally worth it.

Legit southern bbq and definitely a quaint experience. Had take out New Year's Eve and it delighted the whole family. The brisket was our fav but the Mac and cheese wasn't a great choice.

While taking a sightseeing tour, this restaurant was mentioned about how Alton Brown loved this place so much in fact that brought his whole family back to it. As we were driving by you could smell the smoke from the smoker and thought that we would come and have lunch after the tour. I ordered the beef brisket sandwich. The meat was tender and it was a good sandwich, not much meat though and it came with a side of potato chips (really?) for $8.00. Definitely overpriced. My husband ordered the chicken breast plate for $9.00, The piece of chicken he got was small as well as the sides of BBQ beans and sweet potato tots. The chicken was moist but it didn't have much of a smoked taste to it. As mentioned the interior was lacking and dirty, kind of like eating outside on picnic tables. Probably should have tried Southern Soul that was on Diners, Drive ins and Dives that was also mentioned on the tour.

At first, it appears that there is not enough seating but there is plenty. There is a smoker in front which compliments the scenery nicely. You are welcomed by this delicious smelling smoke. I tried the ribs, pulled pork, and brisket. The brisket was great, ribs were good, and the pulled pork was too simple for my taste. My friends loved it though.

Definitely a hole in the wall place, but the BBQ was delicious. We ate here twice during a 4-day stay at the King and Prince. One night we got takeout and ate on our porch back at the room, looking over the ocean. We had the shredded pork, ribs, and chicken. All were good. The sides are all yummy, too. Not fancy, just good.

Decent food, reasonable price and tiki-bar island atmosphere. All in all, pretty good, however, they have many leaks in their roof, so if it rains, watch out - you will be dodging water drops throughout the restaurant. Also, the seating is VERY limited. Good place to go for lunch (non-rush hours).

Based on Alton Brown's tip and also that of several guidebooks, I insisted on dragging my family to Beachcomber as soon as we set foot on the island. I figured how could you go wrong with BBQ just outside of Brunswick? It's a very no-nonsense place, which I completely respect in a BBQ joint, but unfortunately the food does not live up to the expectations. I ordered the recommended fresh-squeezed lemonade for all of us and it was very sweet, not to mention akin to Crystal Light mix. I got the brisket dinner (Alton's suggestion) with fried okra and Brunswick stew (an upcharge) and was underwhelmed by everything. The brisket was flavorless and rubbery. Others in my party got pork and were equally disappointed. I honestly wish I had better things to say, but this one missed the mark for us.

I think this place is average. I did like that they had the smoker out front. Maybe this is this best place on Saint Simons, but it's just a "plain-Jane" BBQ joint to me.

Best BBQ on the island. Usually have a pulled pork plate. Would suggest to anyone looking for BBQ on the island.

Beachcomber BBQ & Grill is a family owned and operated BBQ restaurant on St. Simons Island, Georgia and is located near the King & Prince. Brother and sister team Roger and Heather Hardman have been serving fresh made BBQ and sides daily since 2002. All of the BBQ is smoked right out front on a custom-made smoker, and the sides are made from scratch every day. Come on in and enjoy a great meal and some cold drinks, or call ahead and your order will be ready for you when you arrive. Beachcomber's has one of the best hamburgers on the Island and is one of my personal favorites. The BBQ is also very good at this Island gathering place. This is also a great to eat when you go to the beach because it is within walking distance.

I've been coming here for as long as I can remember and love it. It is St. Simons Island to me. Love the picnic tables, cold beer, and BBQ. Not fancy but real.

My family loves this place for lunch on nice days while we are at the King and Prince. The pulled pork sandwich is a real treat.

Casual place near the beach. The prices are very reasonable and overall the food is ok depending on what you get. The ribs were cooked perfect. I was not very impressed with the sides though. Brunswick stew and fried okra were both lacking flavor. I may just order meat if I go back.

Plain but tasty burgers. Roasted chicken very tasty. No frills sides. Horrible ambience. No wait service. Nothing special about this place. You can almost imagine a huge guy in a butcher smock, unshaven with a cigar hanging out of his mouth taking orders and cooking all the meals.

Mmmmmmmm barbecue. My last day in GA was plagued by monsoons (happy Memorial Day???) with just enough of a stop in the downpour to allow me to dash down the street for real food. Beachcomber is one of the few restaurants within a close walking distance to The King and Prince, and the uncertainty of the weather made it top of my list. The place itself resembles a shack and is right beside a liquor store. My traveling buddy and I had walked by it a few times with fears of gastrointestinal issues but decided to give it a try based on the good word we'd heard from some fellow vacationers for whom it was not their first time visiting. It really is true that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover *hangs head in shame*. Place your order at the (really) hole in the wall inside and wait for your name over the loudspeaker. Joke with the cook about your accidental offering if Canadian change ("Hey, where's my 0.01th of a cent exchange?") Take a seat with your drink (their beer selection is actually deese...for American beer. There I said it.). Enjoy the sweet tea. Had the weather not been so poor, I could imagine many a'beach cover ups hanging out here, coming straight from a day of sunbathing. My turkey sandwich and my friend's pork sammy were excellently bbq'ed; tender, juicy, and with a soft smokey flavour. The meat came with minimal (pork) to no (turkey) sauce of any kind, but at each table stood a bbq and a hot sauce squeezer. If I could do it all over again, I would have been so much more liberal with that sauce, as both our meals were otherwise somewhat bland. Had the flavour been kicked up a southern notch or two, this would have easily been a 5-star review.

Beachcomber is awesome. I spent a lot of time here when I was living in Georgia for a bit. They have awesome BBQ food and their homemade BBQ sauce is awesome, they have a sweet BBQ and a spicy BBQ sauce that are both killer! Simply put this place has good food, good drinks and good atmosphere, I would recommend it to anybody in the area!

Nice hidden restaurant with great BBQ. I've been here many times. They have really good bbq sandwiches, ribs, and all the fix'ins. I know bbq is a touchy subject for some, but I think this ranks up there. They also have a full bar in the back. The staff is very friendly. They have tables outside too. They even had an Oktoberfest night with beer and brats. Walking distance from The Grand, The King & Prince, and The Beach Club. Try them out....you won't be disappointed!

Stayed at the king &prince beach resort and was looking for some bars and ran across this spot. The food was pretty good. The staff was very helpful in leading me down the right path of stuff to do there. It's walking distance from king & prince and real real laid back. Def my kinda place. Would go back whenever in area again.

This is one of my favorite places to grab a VERY casual lunch when I am hanging out on the beach. You can easily walk here from the King and Prince beaches. They a pretty standard grilled fare menu- hamburgers, hotdogs, BBQ sammies, etc. The food is always good. Don't worry about getting dressed to eat here either. You will find plenty of people in their bathing suits having lunch here.

I've heard about the great BBQ at Beachcomber for years. Today I actually got to try it out. I usually stop by one of the BBQ places when you first get on St. Simons, so I've never really driven down to Beachcomber. I ordered 3 lbs of Beachcomber ribs -- DELICIOUS. They sell their ribs with BBQ sauce on the side, so I ate my first rib with no BBQ sauce. It was extremely tender and had tons of flavor. Next, I tried some Beachcomber BBQ sauce it's sweet with a hint of spicy. With or without BBQ sauce the ribs are great. What I really enjoyed about Beachcomber was the atmosphere. I'm on St. Simons Island a lot and I get tired of the same old dressed up snobby scene. Beachcomber was laid back. This is a great hangout spot. There were several groups eating outside. And inside a group of men were watching football and enjoying some drinks. It was just nice to run into some non-touristy people. Even though Beachcomber is not the first BBQ stop when you get onto the island, it should be the first and only place you stop for BBQ. You really have to keep your eyes open to find this BBQ hot spot. I can't wait to try more of the other items on their menu. Take the time and drive on down to Beachcomber for great BBQ and a great time.
